Communications and Advocacy Consultant
Gamuchirai Gono is a communications professional with over 5 years working experience in digital communications, graphic designing and content creation. She holds a MSc. degree in International Relations and a BSc. (Hons) in Media Studies from the Midlands State University.
Gamuchirai started her career as a Communications Intern at the National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO), an umbrella body of NGOs in Zimbabwe. During her internship period, she developed a flair for news article writing by documenting impact stories of NANGO members and worked closely with media houses to ensure visibility of NANGO campaigns. After completion of her internship, she worked with Trademark Digital Innovation, a digital marketing company as a Junior Graphic Designer. In her role, she designed digital marketing materials using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
In 2018, Gamuchirai joined Rozaria Memorial Trust as a Communications Intern. She was promoted to Communications and Advocacy Assistant in 2019, a position she currently holds. Gamuchirai is responsible for the development and execution of high-impact communication strategy that grows and protects RMT’s brand. Her work entails crisis and reputation management, content writing and creation, digital and social media management, and brand communications efforts. She holds broad experience in managing communication products with gender equality as a central component: statements, press releases, developing communications strategies, designing web pages and managing the social media, disseminating knowledge products and spreading diverse materials in order to enhance awareness about RMT’s scope of work.
As Communications and Advocacy Consultant for RMT, she has led digital communications coverage at high level regional platforms such as the 2018 African Union Girls Summit in Ghana and the 2019 SADC People’s Summit in Tanzania. In 2020, Gamuchirai undertook an additional role of Personal Assistant to the African Union (AU) Goodwill Ambassador on Ending Child Marriage for a year. This role strengthened her planning, report writing, copy editing, and facilitation skills. She successfully facilitated meetings on behalf of the AU Goodwill Ambassador on Strategic Resourcing and Sustainability Commitments on Ending Child Marriage with the CSO Reference Group on Ending Child Marriage and IM Swedish Development Partner.
She has represented the AU Goodwill Ambassador on Ending Child Marriage at a High Level meeting convened by the US Embassy in Ethiopia on the Launch of the OPIC 2X Women’s Initiative, an initiative to empower and finance women-owned businesses in Africa. Gamuchirai worked with the UN Women New York Office in 2019 as a key contributor to the 63rd Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Youth Taskforce Committee, she led the designing of digital posters for the Youth Twitterthon and conducted Focus Group Discussions and video interviews of youth’s voices in Zimbabwe under the CSW63 Priority Theme: Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
Gamuchirai holds a Digital Marketing Course Certification awarded by Google.
