Integrated Services on Gender Based Violence (GBV)
In 2019 RMT established RMT Education and Counseling Centre (RMT ECC). The RMT Education and Counseling Centre provides integrated services aimed at addressing issues of Gender Based Violence. Through the years of our programming work we have noted that girls and women living in rural communities experience more effects of GBV compared to those living in urban areas. This is because of entrenched patriarchy, negative social norms and attitudes, limited access to social services and lack of economic opportunities.
The RMT Education and Counseling Centre offers a transitional hub which provides for an emergency shelter (Dendere) and counseling services for girls and women who face abuse. This is complimented by the provision of legal and health referral services by other stakeholders. In addition, the programming ensures the engagement of more than 1,000 Duty Bearers per year including Traditional Leaders, Government Officials and Community Members for protection of girls and young women from GBV including child marriages.
As a way to economically empower women and girls, RMT has established the TVET program at its Centre which focuses on poultry and horticulture.
